Britney Spears’ Dazzling Denim and Diamonds Outfit from 2001 Concert Fetches a Staggering $78,000
One of the most unforgettable ensembles in Britney Spears’ performance history has officially gone under the hammer.
Originally designed by legendary fashion maestro Bob Mackie for the 1981 Las Vegas spectacle Jubilee!, the striking outfit resurfaced at Julien’s Auctions’ Bold Luxury: The Limelight Edit event, which commenced on March 27.
This four-piece set, a dazzling blend of French wirework and shimmering embellishments, adorned Spears, now 43, during her electrifying Dream Within a Dream Tour in 2001. A pivotal night from this tour was immortalized in an HBO concert special that aired in November of that year.
For her iconic …Baby One More Time performance, Spears donned the sparkling bra and matching armbands, while promotional images showcased her in the complete ensemble—including a pair of jeans. Over the weekend, the outfit commanded a jaw-dropping $78,000 at auction. Meanwhile, a reproduction of the jeans—faithfully crafted to mirror the original—fetched $2,925.
The intricacies of the outfit are nothing short of mesmerizing. Constructed with delicate blush-backed wirework for a seamless illusion, the bra and undergarments feature meticulously set stones and draping embellishments. Drops of brilliance cascade from the under-bust of the bra and the waistband of the underwear, exuding a hypnotic allure.
“The Britney Spears collection is truly remarkable,” remarked Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien’s Auctions. “The jeans were meticulously designed by rising talent Corbin Struck, crafted to be an exact replica of the ones Britney originally wore.”
Spears herself reminisced about this defining era in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.
“The Dream Within a Dream Tour, right after my Britney album dropped in the fall of 2001, marked my fourth tour—and undeniably one of my favorites,” she reflected.
On the topic of styling, she expressed gratitude: “When someone truly understood how to dress me, I felt incredibly lucky. They were strategic in shaping my star image, and I acknowledge that. They captured me as an artist. The visionaries behind that tour were nothing short of brilliant—it was, without question, my best tour.”
Beyond Spears’ ensemble, Bold Luxury: The Limelight Edit also showcased legendary fashion pieces from pop culture’s most illustrious figures. Show-stopping outfits from Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe graced the event, with Cher’s electrifying If I Could Turn Back Time stage costume commanding an impressive $162,500.
